MARIA VALERIA BRIDGE

The Mária Valéria bridge is 509 meters long and connects Párkány (Štúrovo) with Esztergom in Hungary. The bridge was built in 1895, but on December 6, 1944, retreating German troops destroyed it. During the years of socialism, the two neighboring countries could not agree on rebuilding the bridge. There was a ferry between the two cities that carried both people and cars.

The Basilica of Esztergom (Hungarian: esztergomi bazilika), is an ecclesiastic basilica in Esztergom, Hungary, the mother church of the Archdiocese of Esztergom-Budapest, and the seat of the Catholic Church in Hungary. It is dedicated to the Saint Mary of the Assumption and Saint Adalbert. It is the largest church and the tallest building in Hungary. Its inner area is 5,600 m². It is 118 m long and 49 m wide.
